VT Group - Best practice training for a range of staff

Broad best-practice based project management training for a range of staff from occasional project team member through to senior project managers.

The Challenge

VT Group comprises a diversity of businesses. VT Group aimed to develop their capabilities to deliver successful projects across all of their businesses. VT Group wanted to develop not just their project managers of various levels of experience, but also their other key staff who regularly supported and delivered projects. It was also important to ensure any project management training was founded on industry best-practice and offered the opportunity for their staff to achieve an appropriate qualification too.

The Solution

Provek developed and delivered Association for Project Management (APM) based project management training in appropriate sizes and formats to suit the needs of VT Group:

  • 1-day Project Management Overview course – for staff who support or contribute to projects on occasions or on a part-time basis.
  • 2-day APM Introductory Certificate course – for staff who are regularly involved in delivering projects as a team member or work package lead or an inexperienced project manager. This culminates in the 1 hour APM IC examination.
  • 6-day APMP course (in 2 x 3-day modules) – for staff regularly fulfilling the role as project manager (or work package lead of significant projects) of various levels of experience. This culminates in a 3 hour APMP examination.
  • 3-day APM Project Risk Management Certificate course – for staff more closely involved in project risk management requiring a deeper risk competence. This culminates in a 1 hour APM Risk Management Certificate Level 1 examination.

Provek also coordinated the training administration including delegate course bookings across the different VT business units to maximise cost efficiency for VT, and simplify processes.

Provek continue to work closely with VT to deliver their ongoing and evolving project and programme management training needs.

The Benefits

All levels of staff, not just project managers, working to deliver successful projects have improved their understanding of practical best-practice project management and how to apply in the work place. Over 450 VT staff have benefited from an appropriate level of Provek training.

Yvonne Bray, Quality Manager, and member of VT’s Project Management Steering Group commented: “We have found that the Provek team provide an excellent service.  The trainers are professional and knowledgeable in their subject.  They work hard to bring the course syllabus alive and use real examples from our business to add value to the training experience.

"The Provek administration team are well organised and efficient and are always willing to go the extra mile to provide an excellent support service.  Our partnership with Provek really works and we jointly look for ways to continually improve the course content.”
