The Challenge

North Devon Council had designed its own project management method based on PRINCE2 best-practice. The Council requested assistance to review its proposed method and then to deliver training to its key project staff to enable the use of the new method in the work place.

The Solution

Provek provided expertise to review the Council’s new project management method including processes, reporting and supporting templates. Working in partnership with the Council’s project office, this yielded numerous well received enhancements, practical simplifications and necessary rigour.

Provek designed tailored training in phased modules (half or one-day) for project sponsors, project managers and other key project staff. The training was styled to enable project staff to gain a thorough understanding of how to use the Council’s method through highly interactive and engaging classroom training using a real council case study to embed learning.

Understanding the Council’s particular language and policy requirements was a key consideration during the tailoring of the training materials.
Provek continue to work closely with North Devon regarding project management support, advice and training delivery.

The result of the training is an enhanced council reputation, with more predictable project budgets and increased likelihood of project success.

  
In the 18 months or so since the training started, an independent audit of North Devon Council identified and reported on improvements in project delivery and project management practices to the great credit of the Council. Clearly, the learning from the tailored training has been taken and applied in the work place.
