Competence Profiler

Welcome to Provek's Competence Profiler based on the APM Competence Framework. This tool provides you with the ability to assess yourself simply across some or all of the  APM competences.

It provides you with a short summary description of each competence derived from the APM’s Body of Knowledge definition and the APM Competence Framework coupled with a novel scoring method.

The profiler can be used to provide a guide or an indicator of your readiness to apply for APM's new Registered Project Professional (RPP)  for which you need at least Level 6.

The APM Competence Framework is available from the Association for Project Management and presents a number of indicators for each of the 47 competences, broken down into 3 areas, technical, contextual and behavioral competences.

This profiler tool comprises 3 sections of questions:

  1. Your Details
  2. Technical Competences
  3. Contextual Competences

Please note, the 9 behavioural competences within the APM Competence Framework are not presented in this tool.  The tool will take around 30 minutes to complete and your results will be sent to you by email.

Please answer all questions in a section and when you are satisfied with your answers click on the submit button.  You may move back and forwards between questions within each section but once you have pressed the submit button you cannot go back to that section.  You are not able to save and re-start the tool and all sections will need to be completed in one continuous session.

An example of how each competence is presented is shown below for the contextual competence CC07 Organisation Structure.

There is also an optional part to each question which invites you to record your evidence relating to that competence.

Your results will be presented in a one page report as shown in the example below.

The scoring method simply requires you to select the statements which best describe your depth and breadth of knowledge and experience respectively of the competence area.  In your individual report, your answers are mapped onto the scoring matrix of 0 to 10 used in the APM Competence Framework and a competence level of A to D calculated for each competence area.  An overall level of competence is presented based on the taxonomy given in the APM Competence Framework.

Complex Projects

For the purposes of selecting your breadth of knowledge and experience, a complex project is one which typically has a number of interrelated stages whose management requires the coordination of several work streams or disciplines, interaction with both internal and external stakeholder groups and a variety of project management tools and techniques to ensure its effective management.
