APM Registered Project Professional: January 2011 Update No.1

Provek continues to lead the way ...

... with information, advice and tools on the new APM Registered Project Professional (RPP) which will be open for applications from 1 March 2011.

The first people to achieve the RPP through the piloting phase were presented with their awards in December by Mike Nichols, APM Chairman.

They included Neil Mooney, training and development director at Provek, who achieved Registered Project Professional and also became an accredited Assessor for the standard.  Provek has been intimately involved with the development of the standard with Andrew Delo, managing director at Provek, being on the Working Party that created it.

What is the APM Registered Project Professional (RPP)?

The APM Registered Project Professional will recognise practitioners who can demonstrate the capabilities of a responsible leader, have the ability to manage a complex project and use appropriate project management tools, processes and techniques.

Who is it for?

The APM Registered Project Professional is aimed at senior project managers who have experience of working in complex project environments.  An applicant must demonstrate a high level of competence across 29 competences.  These 29 competences are taken from the 47 competences in the APM Competence Framework.

What is the application process?

The application process will have two stages.  First, an applicant submits a portfolio of evidence which will be reviewed and marked by an Assessor.  The portfolio includes a description of the complexity of the projects the applicant has worked on, detailed evidence of their competence across 29 competences, two endorsements from supporters, and other evidence.

On successful completion of stage 1, an applicant will be invited to a professional review with two Assessors.  Following success at this review, the designation of Registered Project Professional will be awarded.

And what is happening to Chartered status?

Achieving Chartered status for the APM remains a top priority of the Chairman and the Board.  On being awarded Chartered status, all those holding the Registered Project Professional, will be entered into a register of Chartered Project Professionals (ChPP).
