“Making it Real” – a 2 day workshop that provides an introduction to applied learning models and strategies to support the delivery of Diplomas and other vocational and applied qualifications
Aims of the workshop
By the end of the 2 days you will:
- create 2 examples of applied learning resources/activities to use in the classroom
- develop a set of protocols and best practice for working with employers
- understand and be able to carry out effective preparation of students going into the world of work for experiences of work or work experience
- understand the range of opportunities and resources available nationally to support applied learning
Programme
The programme will be delivered through a range of interactive activities both in group and individually and be delivered by practitioners from within the team at HCS who are experienced in the delivery of applied learning and employer engagement.
Typical day 1 agenda:
- Ice Breaker – “The Taste Test” – your first experience of applied learning
- Applied Learning – the Benefits and Models, Personal learning and Thinking Skills
- Effective Employer Engagement (group activity – developing employer engagement protocols and how to market your school)
- Showcase of Applied Learning Models - case studies from various companies
- WexAbility – a resource pack available to schools to help ensure students are ready for making the most of their time in the workplace. The session will give you an insight into the value of important preparation and strategies for delivering in the classroom
Typical day 2 agenda:
- Overview of Young Enterprise – a National Provider of work related learning activities
- Research on the range of resources and providers offering work related learning
- Developing Resources to “Make it Real” – a case study
- Group work and second briefing
- Presentations and feedback
- Debrief and Evaluation
